This article pertains to a possible hate crime. A 32 year old Iraqi woman was beaten to death in her home in San Diego. Her body was found by her 17 year old daughter. There was a note next to her body that said the woman was a terrorist and she should go back to her country. There have been no leads on who killed the woman as of yet. Why would this not automatically be considered a hate crime? It seems that this should automatically be considered a hate crime. It is very unfortunate that this woman had to die at the hands of someone who thought something of her that most likely was not true.

"Based on the contents of the note we are not ruling out the possibly that this may be a hate crime," Redman said. "We are not revealing the contents of the note, but it was threatening in nature."
ReplyDeleteYeah I do not know why they won't just come out and say it was a hate crime. I mean the family already said what's in the note. Seemed like she was targeted because of her ethnicity.
I have read about this horrific crime and initial reports make it appear like a hate crime. But it seems too convenient to me, to be an actual hate crime - really, a racist would enter the home of a housewife of five kids and kill her with a tire iron. A tire iron? Someone hated this poor woman. I smell a crime of passion. I hope the husband can provide a perfect alibi and there is no history of mistreatment of his wife. Once that has been ruled out, this can be treated as a hate crime per the message left.
ReplyDeleteI do not equate the weapon of choice with whether or not it was a hate crime. There was a note that seems to indicate there was a motive based on this person's ethnicity. If it indeed proves to be something else, then perhaps in your case it may be a crime of passion, and hopefully justice prevails overall. It didn't occur to me that this could be an honor killing, and it wasn't the first thing that popped in my head.
